Now we move to Winecast and a pair of 2003 California Zinfandel.
Winecast sets up the showdown between the "regular" Rancho Zabaco,
Zinfandel, “Sonoma Heritage Vines”, Dry Creek

Bull
I found a bottle of Dancing Bull 2003 Zinfandel lurking in the cupboard
under the stairs. This was an American Zinfandel, so was just a little
sweeter than I'm used to, but not offensively so.

Zinfandel Toreador - Rancho Zabaco [Red] [750] - $47.99
The 2004 Zinfandel Monte Rosso Toreador is absolutely amazing and one
of the great Zinfandels of that vintage. Full-bodied, powerful, and
concentrated, this stunning Zinfandel should drink well for up to a
decade.

The outstanding 2004 Zinfandel Richard Sauret Vineyard (77% Zinfandel
and 23% Petite Sirah) exhibits a deep ruby/purple color as well as a
heady, potent, flamboyant perfume of earth, blackberries, cherries,
pepper, and subtle herbs. Ripe, full-bodied, and powerful (16%
alcohol), this is a stunning Zinfandel to drink over the next 4-5 years.

Zinfandel Monte Rosso - Rancho Zabaco [Red] [750] - $34.99
The 2003 Zinfandel Monte Rosso, which comes from a vineyard at a
1,300-foot elevation, has a dense ruby/purple color and a beautiful,
sweet nose of Chinese black tea, black currant, sweet cherry,
sandalwood, and pepper. It is a full-bodied, structured Zinfandel that
should last for 7-8 years, possibly longer.

Toucan Wines Zinfandel, Arroyo Grande, California
In the course of our exchanges, he shared with me that he was in the
midst of making his first wine from his own recently planted vineyard,
and I learned a little about the trials and tribulations of going from
a bare patch of ground to a working Zinfandel vineyard. Well, another
year passed and a new bottle arrived in the mail recently, and so I
pulled it out and tasted the new vintage alongside a few other
Zinfandel samples I had received and.shebang!
