Bidding higher
The trend in wine auctions is up, way up. Last year, I speculated that the estimated $100 million of wine destroyed in a warehouse fire in Napa was about the size of one year in the wine auction market. That was so 2004 of me.

Testube 8 @ Blog, M.D. - Segue-ing to "Que Pasa" & Ornellaia '95
As it turns out, the rather rude push-off at PS Cafe (see previous post) was to be a blessing in disguise. The boyz and I decided we wanted some real man's food, and swung round to Que Pasa (QP), where a warm welcome awaited us.

Should Long Island Be Identified With a Particular Variety?
By Contributing Columnist Charles Massoud - When Lenn asked if I would contribute to LENNDEVOURS, I was at the same time flattered, intrigued, apprehensive and I questioned if that is something I was good at.

Don't let the heat beat you!
Or your wine! These days of forty-something temperatures can create havoc if you are just storing wine in the back cupboard. There are solutions, some cheap, some outrageously expensive.

Peter Lehmann Semillon 2004
I like Barossa semillon especially as a young wine and Peter Lehmann have been getting it right since hmmmm I think about 2001. Round about this time they started picking earlier and chucked out oak. At under $12 this knocks spots off just about anything that is not Riesling.

S.M.Tenimenti Pile “Salcetino” Chianti Classico 2001
A nice Chianti is exactly the sort of thing I like drinking for mid-week tipples. It has many of the same attributes as a good Hunter Shiraz. Dry, savoury, low in alcohol, fresh acidity, good with food etc etc. This one is bottled by S.M.Tenimenti Pile of Lamole and is imported by Combined Wines

Rockford “Moppa Springs” 2001
Recently released, a blend of 70% Grenache, 17% Shiraz, 13% Mataro. An attractive nose of raspberries, woody spice (cinnamon) and new leather; nothing confected about this Grenache. The palate shows sweet red fruits, some sourness and slightly chewy tannins. The oak is nowhere to be seen

Mitchelton are tops
Sent off an email to Mitchelton today regarding a corked 1998 Print. They responded within an hour with an offer of a bottle of the 2002 vintage - which I understand is under screwcap.

Planning a wine dinner, where do you start? Finding the right location (Home or a local restaurant), how many people to invite, will you have a wine theme (vintage or varietal), or just getting plugged into your local population of wine geeks.

Beringer Stone Cellars Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon 1999 wine review by (PB)
This magnum was a refreshing change from the usual "Woodbridge" routinely served with our pizza night get-together with friends. It has a very light nose, and is a little stinky. But in the mouth it is big on flavors

Marquis De Chasse 2003 Merlot wine review by (PB)
This generic Bordeaux has some hit and miss offerings. This one is a miss. It has good varietal aromas of green peppers and yeast but in the mouth it is thin, hot, and just plain weak all around. It’s not a bad wine
